Making Friends with AI
Breaking: Google Bard and GPT-4
Let’s take a look at the hottest AI tech released in the past week
Wow, what a week for the AI industry! Over the last few days, we saw some massive AI announcements, including two cutting edge large language model (LLM) releases that rocked social media:
How do they relate to one another? I feel your pain with all the acronyms, so I added a quick cheatsheet for you at the bottom of this page.
If you think these AI breakthroughs have nothing to do with you, think again. They represent huge personal productivity opportunities for everyone with internet access, yes everyone-everyone, which is why you (and everyone you know!) can benefit from playing with at least one of these tools, as I explain here.

It’s faster to learn by trying them out or watching a video than by reading about them. So instead of reading, follow any of the links above. Or, better yet, try them all! No expertise needed; if you know how to send text messages to your friends, you might even be a touch overqualified. You might even — *gasp* — have fun doing it.
I’ve given you a little preview of the interfaces side-by-side in this unboxing video:

I hope your first time using LLMs brings you at least as much amusement as I’m enjoying in the video. (Though if your idea of fun is allergic to mine, you’ll find it an unrelatable love story.) Never mind all that — the video does show the interfaces clearly (well, in HD on a big screen, anyway), so if you’ve been unable to play with them yourself, it’ll be the next best thing and will give you at least a basic set of Cliffs Notes for the virtual water cooler.
But what the video doesn’t show is All The Things you could ask LLMs to help you with, but…
