Is this blog post about lies and liars? Am I about to explain that your boss is lying to you? Nah, good leaders are usually savvy enough to misrepresent more skillfully than that. You’ll rarely catch them in an outright lie, but — especially for senior leaders — part of the job is having misdirection down to an art. They’re usually telling you a truth, but not necessarily the (whole) truth.
If you expect good leaders to give you straight answers, you haven’t understood what their job is.
Sure, bad leaders might do all kinds of nasty things — including lie to your face — for no reason but their own amusement or personal career growth. They’re a scourge.
